- When she was born she had no double eyelid. At age 9 her left eyelid was given as a matter of course in double eyelid; and at age 11 the double eyelid was given in the left one.
- At the age of 9 she had an appendicitis operation.
- Her childhood dream was to be a diplomat.
- She was the only member to debut with no experience prior to her training at Source Music.
- Her name “Umji” means “Thumb”, so in Korea many affectionately call her “Eomji gongju”, that is to say “Thumbelina” (“Thumbelina” in English).
- The hashtag #UmjiYouAreBeBeBeautiful was created as a means of supporting Umji for all the criticism she was receiving for her appearance.
- Her father is the CEO of a chain of dental clinics with more than 40 clinics nationwide in South Korea and more than 200 affiliated dentists.
- On October 5, 2016, GFRIEND’s agency, Source Music officially stated that due to a sprained muscle in her left thigh Umji will temporarily stop activities with the group to focus on treatment and recovery from her injury.
- She graduated from Seoul School of Performing Arts (SOPA) on February 7, 2017.
- Among many other names, she planned to be called ‘Ariel’ by the time she debuted, until she decided on the name she now has, Umji.
