About Sandara Park
Sandara Park was born in Busan, South Korea. When she was 10 years old, the Park family moved to the Philippines to start a trading business.
She is best known for being a member and communications director of the 2NE1 group. However, she first gained great popularity in ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Quest during her stay in the Philippines.
During one of her school activities, Park met Pauleen Luna, a former talent from ABS-CBN Corporation Channel 2’s Channel 2’s Talent Center, in 2004. She encouraged the shy Sandara to audition for Star Circle Quest, the network’s attempt at a reality-based talent search. Throughout the season, Park escaped elimination several times, all the way down to the final ten contestants. Her Korean ethnicity led to some problems with the daily exercises set by the panel of Filipino judges. During the last elimination round, Park collected approximately 500,000 text votes. She eventually finished in second place behind champion Hero Angeles. Park also embarked on a musical career that led to the release of her six-track eponymous album that contained the novelty dance hit “In or Out,” a song that parodied her experiences in Star Circle Quest.
In December 2004, Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment offered her workshop classes in South Korea after watching the ABS-CBN documentary My Name Is Sandara Park. In March 2005, she attended the workshops, putting her career in the Philippines on hold. After six months, she resumed work in the Philippines, starring in several films. She left the entertainment industry in the Philippines and returned to South Korea with her family on August 1, 2007. YG Entertainment announced the next day that she had signed a contract with them.
