- In April 2009, Moon Geun Young made donations to the Haenam Children’s Center used as a study hall for poor students to the NGO group Good People international charity group of the United Nations UCOSCO with the aim of enhancing self-sustainability and eradicating extreme poverty through the restoration of self-esteem with the principles of human dignity and equality globally.
- She donated more than 850 million won over the past six years to the Community Chest of Korea, a nationwide network of 16 nonprofit fundraising organizations, becoming the largest single donor to the Community Chest of Korea.
- She has donated nearly 100 million won to Morning Reading, a non-profit organization that promotes book reading. she gave 4,300,000 won in 2005, 4 million won in 2006 and 70 million won in 2007. Moon Geun Young made the donations secretly through her mother, young Seon Ryu, but her good deeds became known when Morning Reading revealed this information via online in 2007.
- She donated some 300 million won in 2006 to a learning center for poor children in Haenam, South Cholla Province, near her hometown of Gwangju Bae Yo Seopopened an after-school study hall for children from poor single-parent families or to pursue their studies free of charge in 2002. A new building, equipped with library, computer room, restrooms and dining hall was built on the land. The 200 million won expenditure was also covered by the Moon
- She again showed her generosity by building a library for young Koreans living in Australia. The actress will support the construction of the library (100 million won), and the donation of books. Moon has carried out the book donation with her own money since 2006, when she saw during a visit to her relatives in Australia how young Korean students did not have enough books or places to learn Korean. She worked with the Korean Linfield School in Sydney to build a permanent Korean library, called the Han Geul Library.

- On February 3, 2017, it was reported that the actress canceled her upcoming performances in “Rome and Juliet” because of an emergency operation. Namoo Actors explained, “On February 1, Moon Geun Young complained of sudden pain in her right arm and went to the hospital at 9 am the next day. She was diagnosed with Acute Compartment Syndrome and had to go through a surgical procedure. Her current condition is being monitored and she will have to go through one more operation in 2 to 3 days, plus 1 to 2 more operations in the future.” They also added that she is currently hospitalized and is on absolute rest.
