About Lena Park

Biography

Park won many singing competitions in the U.S. before recording her album, Gospel, in 1993. She continued her studies while performing numerous times to the public. She attended the UCLAfor a year before she began her career as a singer, releasing her first Korean-language album, Piece, in 1998, which sold over 500,000 copies even though she did not like to promote her album on live shows. Park did not learn to speak Korean properly until she released her first album.

In 1999, she released her album “A Second Helping”, which was well acclaimed by fans and critics alike. Park’s third album, “Naturally”, was produced in South Korea and the United States.

After taking a one-year break due to her studies in the United States, she came back in 2002 with her album Op.4. From then on she expressed her comfort in appearing in public by participating in live shows and concerts.

In 2002 her song “Kkum-e” (In a Dream) was very successful and gave her access to foreign markets, such as Singapore. The Korean government chose Park to represent Korea at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. At the end of 2002, a greatest hits album was released and she sang at many concerts. The recordings from these concerts were used to produce her first special CD and DVD album.

Park, along with Brown Eyes, CHEMISTRY and Sowelu formed a group called “Voices of Korea/Japan” and made songs for the 2002 Soccer World Cup. Later, she made her debut in the Japanese music industry where she was very successful.

Park is especially proud of her fifth Korean album, On & On, because according to her she “finally felt comfortable about composing in the Korean language.”.

Since 2006 she has been studying at Columbia University in New York.

In 2007 she sang the intro song Inori ~You Raise Me Up~In for the anime Romeo x Juliet. This song is a cover of Rolf Lovland and Brendan Graham’s song, You Raise Me Up. The single also includes an English language version.

Her sixth Korean-language album, Come To Where I Am, was released on December 11, 2007, in which all songs were composed and produced by Lena.
