Biography

In 2003, Jessi successfully auditioned for Doremi Mediahe released her first album “Get Up” in 2005, performing the title song on the TV show “Get Up”, and moved to South Korea at the age of 15 Music Bankin 2006, the hip hop group UPT introduced her on their album “Testimony”, replacing their original vocalist Yoon Mi Rae her second single, titled “The Rebirth”, was released in January 2009. After this release she took a break from music and left Korea to return to America.

In 2014, after a five-year hiatus, Jessi returned as a member of hip-hop trio Lucky J with the rapper J’kyun and the vocalist JEROlucky J debuted with the digital single “Can You Hear Me” under YMC Entertainment a month after her debut, Lucky J made an appearance on Mnet’s music competition program, Immortal Songs 2on December 31, Jessi performed the rap verse in a collaboration stage with Ailee and Hyolyn the trio introduced the hit song Bang Bang on the year-end music program MBC Gayo Daejejeon.

From January to March 2015, Jessi was part of the first season of Unpretty Rapstar, a spin-off of Show Me The Moneyafter her appearance on Unpretty Rapstar, Jessi was chosen as the show’s second place winner by audience vote J.Y. Park” Who’s your mama?” and its music video, both released in April 2015. The track topped the Big Nine music charts in Korea as soon as it was released. Throughout 2015, Jessi appeared as a guest on several popular variety shows, including Running Many Happy Togetherjessi’s first live performance in the U.S. took place on Oct. 16. She performed at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, with hip-hop duo Mighty Mouth as her opening act. When Unpretty Rapstar 2 aired, Jessi appeared in several episodes as a mentor. She and Cheetah the previous season’s winner, appeared on Unpretty Rapstar 2 songs produced by Verbal Jint in December 2015, Jessi performed her rap song “Ssenunni” at the Mnet Asian Music Awards.

In 2016, Jessi starred as one of the permanent members in season 1 of the popular Korean variety show, Unni’s Slam Dunk.

Jessi’s contract with YMC Entertainment ended in October 2018, and in January 2019, she signed a contract with the record label for PSY her first single under the label, “Who Dat B,” was released on Sept. 23, 2019. “Who Dat B” peaked at No. 8 on the worldwide digital song sales chart and 68 on the Billboard Korea K-Pop Hot 100.He released another rap single, “Drip” featuring Jay Park the collaboration reached number 16 on the worldwide song chart.

The singer released her mini album, Nuna, on July 30, 2020. The lead single, “Nunu Nana”, was released along with the album.
