Biography

Pre-Debut

Henry Lau (born October 11, 1989) better known as Henry, is a Canadian-born pop singer of Chinese-Taiwanese descent. He was a member of the subunit of Super Junior, Super Junior M henry is fluent in two languages: English and Mandarin, fluent in Cantonese, conversational Korean, Japanese, some French and basic Spanish.

Henry’s areas of expertise include playing the violin, piano, popping and singing. He started violin lessons at the age of six, apparently, he used to cry when he had those lessons, and after only one year of dancing, Henry learned to pop dance. He won many awards for his violin and piano performances such as the “Silver Medal” which is awarded to those who reach the 10th level of violin by the Royal Conservatory of Music of Canada (award given to the highest recorded score in Canada for violin performances at level 10 in the province that year), and won awards for his dancing as well. Henry is one of Korea’s most attractive singers. He attended North Toronto Collegiate Institute until he was nine years old and then moved to A.Y. Jackson Secondary School in Toronto. Jackson Secondary School in Toronto for the rest of his high school before being chosen in 2006 at the SM Entertainment Global Audition in Toronto, Ontario.

Debut in Super Junior

In September 2007, Henry made his first appearance in the video of Super JuniorDon’t Don a few months later, ‘Don’t Don’ became the number one hit in Korea.

In 2008, Henry became a part of the subunit of Super Junior call, called Super Junior M on April 8, 2008, the sub-unit debuted in China, releasing its version of the video ‘…U’ and an album entitled ‘迷 [Me]’ after incorporating Henry’s violin.

Henry returned to the music industry after a year off Super Junior M and his first mini-album entitled ‘Super Girl was launched in China on September 25, 2009. In 2010, Henry composed with Lee Teuk a song called ‘진심 “All My Heart’ for the repackaged edition (repackage) of the fourth album from Super Junior.

For Super Show 2, he only produced and wrote one song titled ‘….Sick Of Love which was written in English and has not yet been officially registered.

Solo Debut

May 28th SM Entertainment announced through its different social networks that a new solo male artist would soon be making his debut, a publication that was accompanied by two photographs where the artist’s face was covered, which generated several speculations. Finally 2 days later the agency released two new photographs revealing that the new artist was Henry from Super Junior M.

His first mini-album is titled ‘Trap was released on June 7 with the special participation of his agency partners Kyu Hyun from Super Junior and Lee Tae Min from SHINee his first official appearance was on the music program Music Bank on the following days, he presented his work in Show! Music Core, Inkigayo, M! Countdown, Show Champion and Simply K-Pop, as well as South Korean music programs. His first overseas performance was on July 1st at the “Hong Kong Dome Festival”.

On August 14, the Chinese version of the mini-album ‘Trap and on August 23rd its first digital single was released, which featured the participation of Amber Liu from F (x) also an agency partner.

2017-2018

He returns after some time of inactivity with a series of singles in Korean, Chinese and English, starting with Girlfriend, then Real Love, I’m Good (this one with a new style) and That One in 2017.

Starting 2018 with the song “Monster”, the latter being performed in Chinese and English.

Termination of contract and departure from SM Entertainment

April 30, 2018, SM Entertainment revealed, “Henry’s exclusive contract recently expired, and we have ended on good terms.”.

Henry plans to establish a one-person agency and continue his activities.
